Aikido is a non-competitive form of personal development and self-defense based on traditional Japanese schools of martial arts (koryu). It is suitable for people of any age and classes cater for all levels of experience and fitness so please come along and have a go.
We train on:
Fridays 20:00-22:00 (Adults 18+)
Scouts & Guides Hall
You can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
New adult members get their first three classes for £5. After this, it’s £5 per class.
After the first three classes, members are required to pay an annual BAF membership and insurance fee of £35 (£25 for students and £20 for senior citizens). Family groups of three or more members only have to pay 75% of the total (see BAF website for full breakdown of rates).
Please note that this club is run on a not for profit basis. The training fees go straight into our rent with Pontarddulais Judo Club and any excess is then used to bring in guest instructors.
New members should wear loose comfortable clothing i.e. tracksuit trousers and a t-shirt. Please also bring flip-flops or something to wear between the changing room and the mat. If you own a keikogi from previous training, please wear a white obi.
After becoming a full BAF member, you are expected to purchase and wear a keikogi as soon as is convenient. You are welcome to purchase this from anywhere but it should be plain white with no badges (other than the obligatory manufacturers tags). You are permitted, if desired, to have your name embroidered in katakana (or kanji, if appropriate) horizontally on the left upper arm/shoulder. Displaying your name on your clothes when learning is a traditional sign of humility in Japan as it makes the statement that you are not important enough for your teacher to remember your name but it is an optional extra.

There are regular BAF courses across the country which give us the opportunity to train with different people and learn from different instructors making our Aikido experience richer and giving us connections both nationally and internationally. The highlight of the year is the BAF Summer School; a week in August at Chester University with a visiting instructor from Hombu Dojo, Tokyo supported by our own resident senior instructors.
